Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has dismissed allegations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu played a role in the political and legal challenges he faced during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Saraki made the clarification during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, as monitored by DAILY POST.
Addressing claims that Tinubu influenced the controversies surrounding his tenure as Senate President, Saraki described such assertions as unfair, noting that the current president did not wield the level of authority many attributed to him within the Buhari administration.
“It’s not fair on President Tinubu. During former President Buhari’s administration, Tinubu didn’t have the say that they claimed he had,” Saraki stated.
He explained that his prosecution before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, as well as investigations linked to the Offa robbery incident, were not influenced by Tinubu.
Saraki maintained that his actions while in office were guided by national interest, despite the political consequences that followed.
“I was doing what I felt was in the interest of the country as the President of the Senate, and for doing those things I was then persecuted,” he said.
He further emphasized that Tinubu was neither involved in initiating nor executing the processes that led to his trial at the Code of Conduct Bureau or other allegations brought against him during that period.
