Rivers State House of Assembly Abruptly Resumes Plenary

0

In a sudden reversal of its earlier decision, the Rivers State House of Assembly has resumed plenary, just days ahead of its previously scheduled session.

The assembly, led by Speaker Hon. Martin Amaewhule, had initially planned to reconvene on January 26th. However, an internal memo circulated to members on January 5th confirmed that plenary would commence on Thursday, January 8th, at 10:00 am. The memo, signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, urged all members to treat the information “with utmost importance.”

The unexpected move comes amid heightened political activity in the state, notably the ongoing tour of all 23 local government areas by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, which has intensified political tensions.

Speculation is rife that the assembly’s early reconvening could be linked to plans to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Further updates are expected as the House’s proceedings unfold.
