Rivers SSG Benibo Anabraba Dumps PDP, Joins APC

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), days after resigning from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

DAILY POST reports that Anabraba had on Monday morning announced his resignation from the PDP but kept his next political move undisclosed until now.

Confirming the development in a statement, Juliana Masi, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the SSG, disclosed that Anabraba has completed his APC membership registration.

According to the statement, Dr. Anabraba registered as an APC member on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Ward 1, Unit 1, Bob-Manuel’s Compound, Abonnema, in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The statement noted that the registration formally affirms his status as a member of the ruling party, enabling him to fully participate in APC activities. It also positions him to support Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Rivers First agenda as well as the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on his decision, Anabraba emphasized that stronger collaboration between the Rivers State Government and the Federal Government would yield greater benefits for the people of the state.

“A strong partnership between Rivers State and the Federal Government is bound to produce greater benefits for the good of our people,” he was quoted as saying.

The defection is expected to further reshape the political landscape of Rivers State ahead of future electoral contests.
