A former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of mismanaging public funds, alleging that the state is operating without a legally approved budget for the 2026 fiscal year.
Ewor made the allegation on Wednesday during a “thank you” visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to Ahoada East Local Government Area.
According to him, governance in Rivers State has been weakened by the breakdown in cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government. He warned that the absence of a duly passed appropriation law renders all state expenditures unlawful.
“The system of government is designed to have an executive, a legislature, and a judiciary working together to deliver the dividends of democracy,” Ewor said. “As we speak, Rivers State has no budget for 2026. Any expenditure from January 1 going forward is illegal.”
The PDP chieftain stressed that without legislative approval of the budget, financial activities of the state government lack constitutional backing.
Ewor further urged the state government to be transparent and honest with the people of Rivers State, calling on leaders to clearly communicate the realities of governance to their supporters.
“They should open up, communicate, and tell their followers the truth,” he added.
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, particularly over relations between the executive and the legislature.
