Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who recently withdrew their support for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara have reversed their decision and rejoined the impeachment process.
DAILY POST recalls that the lawmakers had, a few days ago, publicly distanced themselves from the impeachment move, urging their colleagues to suspend the proceedings.
Those who initially stepped back include the Minority Leader of the House, Sylvanus Nwankwo, representing Omuma State Constituency; Peter Abbey, representing Degema State Constituency; the Deputy Minority Leader, Barile Nwakoh, representing Khana Constituency I; and Emilia Amadi, representing Obio/Akpor Constituency II.
However, speaking at a press conference on Friday, the four lawmakers announced a change of stance, insisting that Governor Fubara had failed to provide any justification for them to continue opposing the impeachment process.
According to them, the governor’s actions since their earlier withdrawal did not warrant a halt to the proceedings.
The development came as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday reaffirmed their resolve to proceed with the impeachment of Governor Fubara and his deputy, arguing that their removal would prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.
DAILY POST reports that the governor and the lawmakers have been locked in a prolonged political confrontation, which has continued to heighten tensions within the state’s political landscape.
