Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday declared their intention to proceed with the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, further deepening the political crisis in the state.
The lawmakers made the announcement during an ongoing press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, where they accused the governor of actions they said warranted removal from office.
The development comes amid a prolonged political face-off between Governor Fubara and the House of Assembly, a rift that has paralysed governance and heightened tensions within the state’s political landscape.
Details of the impeachment grounds and the next steps in the process are yet to be fully disclosed.
More updates to follow.
