Rivers APC Rejects Impeachment Move Against Gov Fubara, Deputy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has strongly opposed the move by the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

The Assembly had on Thursday initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor over alleged misconduct, with reports indicating that a formal notice of impeachment may be served on the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.

Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, described the impeachment move as unacceptable and politically destabilising.

In a statement, Nwauju said the party “solemnly rejects the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” warning that the situation could undermine governance in the state.

He further argued that internal crises associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should not be allowed to spill over and create instability within the APC-led government in Rivers State.

“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party,” he said.

Nwauju stressed that the APC would take all necessary steps to ensure that the Rivers State government remains stable, insisting that the administration must not be distracted by political infighting.

“The ruling party will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilized,” he added.

The impeachment move has continued to generate reactions across political circles in the state, with concerns mounting over its potential impact on governance and stability in Rivers State.
