Rivers APC Opens Doors to Fubara, Says He’ll Become Party Leader if He Defects

PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its readiness to welcome Governor Siminalayi Fubara into its ranks, saying he would automatically assume leadership of the party in the state if he joins.

The reinstated APC spokesman in Rivers, Darlington Nwauju, made the remarks on Tuesday while featuring on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme.

“If I were the governor of Rivers State, on my return on Thursday, I would announce my defection to the All Progressives Congress,” Nwauju said.

“I think the governor should join the APC, and we would gladly receive him into our party. By convention, he automatically becomes the party’s leader once he defects.”

Nwauju also touched on the administration of the state’s Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), noting that the Rivers APC has not called for any probe into his six-month stewardship.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu and the suspended Governor Fubara are expected back in the country on Tuesday, ahead of Rivers State’s return to democratic rule on Thursday.
