PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has lambasted Governor Siminalayi Fubara for failing to show up and address his supporters who had gathered at the Government House on Thursday, describing the incident as a betrayal.
Thousands of Fubara’s loyalists, popularly known as the Simplified Family, had trooped to the seat of power to welcome the governor following President Bola Tinubu’s decision on Wednesday to lift the suspension earlier imposed on him, his deputy, and members of the State Assembly after the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers.
While the lawmakers promptly resumed plenary, the governor’s whereabouts remained unknown, leaving his supporters stranded for hours before angrily dispersing.
Reacting, Rivers ADC Chairman, Chief Amb. Leader Sampson, in a statement, said the governor’s absence amounted to disregard for his loyalists, which he alleged was influenced by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
“Indeed, Governor Fubara spat at your faces, revealing his disregard for your rights under the corrupt influence of the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike,” Sampson declared.
He warned that the incident was a “red signal” for the state’s future, while urging members of the Simplified Family to shift allegiance to the ADC.
“At this point, I advise all Simplified Family to channel your political focus and allegiance to the ADC — the party that will not use you as pawns and discard you,” he said.
Sampson called on Fubara’s supporters to “rise up against the forces that would silence your voices” and join the ADC in “building a brighter future for Rivers State and Nigeria.”
