Rivers ADC Accuses Wike of Plot to Destabilise Party, Urges Tinubu to Intervene

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over what it described as an alleged attempt to destabilise the party’s structure in the state.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the party’s State Chairman, Chief Leader Sampson, the ADC alleged that its structures in Ikwerre Local Government Area—and by extension across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State—are being targeted in a calculated political move.

According to the statement, the party uncovered what it termed a coordinated effort allegedly involving the FCT Minister, acting through the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Mr. Charles Wobodo, under the supervision of Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, to create parallel and unconstitutional leadership structures within the ADC.

The party claimed the alleged actions include attempts to impose non-existent LGA and ward executives, as well as directives encouraging elected ward councillors to assume leadership roles within the ADC unlawfully.

Describing the development as a direct threat to democratic principles and political plurality, the ADC said no individual or group should seek to intimidate or suppress alternative political platforms.

“The political space remains open to all Nigerians. Attempts to stifle opposition undermine constitutional rights and weaken democratic norms,” the statement read, adding that history has shown such moves often stem from fear of accountability.

The party urged President Tinubu to immediately intervene and “call the Honourable FCT Minister to order” to safeguard political stability in Rivers State. It also appealed to relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations and prevent actions capable of escalating political tensions.

The Rivers ADC reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and lawful political engagement, vowing to defend its legally recognised structures against any form of interference.

The party further urged its members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant while continuing to support its vision of credible leadership and people-focused governance.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the FCT Minister or the individuals mentioned in the statement.
