Putin ‘Warned of British Assassination Plot’ Ahead of Planned Trump Meeting in Budapest

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly been warned against traveling to Budapest for a planned meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, following claims of an alleged British plot to assassinate him.

The world leaders are expected to meet in Hungary to discuss potential resolutions to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine — a conflict now nearing its fourth year.

After recently brokering talks between Israel and Hamas, Trump is said to be turning his focus to Eastern Europe, aiming to secure what he calls a “peace deal” between Kyiv and Moscow. Reports suggest the U.S. president held tense discussions with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 17 October, allegedly demanding that Ukraine surrender the Donbas region to Russia — or face destruction at Putin’s hands.

But amid these developments, one of Putin’s allies has made shocking allegations.
Former Russian intelligence operative Andrey Bezrukov, who once worked undercover in the U.S. for the SVR, claims the Kremlin leader’s life could be in danger if he attends the Budapest meeting.

Speaking on Russian state TV, Bezrukov — now a professor at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) — urged Putin to cancel the trip, warning of “an absolutely treacherous operation” supposedly being plotted by the British.

“Do not go to Budapest,” Bezrukov reportedly told Putin, insisting that the UK “would risk everything” to eliminate the Russian leader. He added, “The entire mentality of the British is structured in such a way that if Putin doesn’t exist, then there’s no problem — Russia will fall apart.”

He suggested Dubai as a safer alternative location, calling the United Arab Emirates a “wonderful country” to host the talks.

Although no evidence was provided to support the claim, the warning was echoed by well-known Russian TV host Vladimir Solovyov, who described Putin as “so brave” he might go to Hungary regardless.

If confirmed, the Budapest meeting would mark Putin’s first visit since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
