The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has declared full confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing security reforms and openly endorsed his bid for re-election in 2027.
Rising from a crucial strategy meeting with top All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, the governors urged Nigerians to remain calm despite rising security concerns, assuring that government is implementing comprehensive measures to restore peace nationwide.
The communiqué, read by the PGF Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, noted that the forum conducted an extensive review of the nation’s political, economic, and social climate.
According to Uzodimma, the governors reaffirmed that every reform of the Tinubu administration is targeted at improving the daily lives of citizens across all demographics.
They commended the president for “steadfast commitment to stabilizing the economy, strengthening national security and laying the foundation for sustainable growth through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The forum acknowledged ongoing efforts in food security, power supply, infrastructure development, transportation upgrades, and social investment. It pledged to align state-level policies to ensure citizens across all communities benefit from the reforms.
Addressing the rising cost of living, the governors appreciated the resilience of Nigerians and promised intensified interventions in food production, youth employment, SME support, social protection and targeted relief for low-income households.
On security, the PGF expressed satisfaction with improved coordination between federal, state and local security structures, applauding the courage of security agencies and community volunteers. They vowed to strengthen community-based security initiatives, intelligence gathering and support for victims of violence.
The forum also underscored the need for unity, urging leaders nationwide to promote moderation, tolerance and inter-ethnic harmony while isolating hate speech and criminality.
Local Governance and Citizen Engagement
The governors reiterated the centrality of strong local government administration to the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda. They committed to improving transparency, accountability and grassroots service delivery in partnership with relevant institutions.
The PGF agreed to broaden avenues for citizen engagement through town halls and consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, labour, youth, professional groups and women’s associations.
They emphasized that listening to citizens, explaining policies clearly and adjusting strategies based on feedback are essential to strengthening trust in government.
Reaffirming confidence in Nigeria’s future, the forum pledged deeper inter-state collaboration, stronger policy coordination and people-centred governance. Nigerians were encouraged to go about their daily activities without fear, while the forum extended early Christmas and New Year wishes.
Sanwo-Olu Backs Tinubu for Second Term
Host governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hailed President Tinubu as a visionary leader who “deserves a second term in 2027,” describing him as the best person to steer Nigeria toward national prosperity. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of APC governors to the success of the Tinubu administration.
Governors in attendance included representatives from Kebbi, Edo, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Enugu, Kaduna, and Katsina states, alongside Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Senator Tokunbo Abiru and several party leaders.
