President Tinubu Appoints Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, marking a decisive move in his administration’s effort to reinforce Nigeria’s defence leadership and strengthen the nation’s overall security framework.

General Oluyede takes over from General Christopher Musa, who has been commended for his distinguished service and commitment to the country’s stability during his tenure. The appointment forms part of a broader reorganization within the Armed Forces, reflecting the President’s resolve to inject fresh strategy and renewed energy into Nigeria’s security architecture.

In the same announcement, Major-General W. Shaibu was named Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes office as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence, ensuring continuity in the nation’s intelligence command.

President Tinubu praised the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while urging the new military heads to “justify the confidence reposed in them” and to uphold the discipline, professionalism, and unity that define the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The President expressed optimism that General Oluyede’s leadership will usher in a new era of operational excellence, inter-agency synergy, and strategic innovation in the country’s ongoing efforts to safeguard national security.

All appointments take immediate effect.
