Chief Security Officer (CSO), to the late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has joined 2023 presidential race.
Al-Mustapha declared his interest to run on the platform of the Action Alliance (AA) while picking the party’s presidential nomination form in Abuja on Thursday May 19, 2022.
promised to end insecurity bedeviling the Northeast and Northwest geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
According to him, his administration would end the insecurity the Northeast and Northwest geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
He also said that his administration would provide sustainable development in order to assist in boasting the country’s economy.
The AA national chairman, Chief Kenneth Udeze, challenged the party members and officers on the need to work towards the victory of the party’s candidates across the nation.
Udeze commended Mustapha for stimulating his beliefs of a better Nigeria.
Major Al-Mustapha is an intelligence officer who served as Chief Security Officer to General Sani Abacha, who was Nigeria’s military head of state from 1993 until his sudden death on June 8, 1998.
The former Army officer was charged in 1998 with the murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of the presidential candidate M.K.O Abiola (who had died in jail in July 1998). At the trial the killer, Sergeant Barnabas Jabila, said he was obeying orders from his superior, al-Mustapha.
Al-Mustapha was accused of involvement in drug trafficking, using diplomatic pouches to transport the drugs, among many other charges.
After many years in prison, in 2017, court acquainted him of all charges levied against him and was set free. He then entered into partisan politics founding the Green Party of Nigeria (GPN).
He was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) during the 2019 presidential election which saw President Buhari emerged as winner for the second term in office.
