Police Impound 70 Vehicles Over Traffic Violations Despite Court Order Against Enforcement

No fewer than 70 vehicles have been impounded by the Yobe State Police Command for various traffic offences, despite an existing court order restraining the enforcement of the policy.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed this in a statement on Monday, explaining that the operation was launched in line with the Motor Traffic Regulations Act following a surge in criminal activities linked to vehicles with covered or tinted glasses used to conceal suspects’ identities.

“As enforcement commenced, several categories of traffic violations were detected,” Abdulkarim said. “Vehicles without number plates, those with incomplete or invalid documentation, and vehicles with covered number plates without valid justification were all impounded.”

He added that a total of 70 vehicles had so far been seized during the exercise, which aims to strengthen law enforcement and clamp down on individuals using vehicles to commit crimes across the state.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, personally inspected the ongoing enforcement to ensure full compliance with traffic regulations. The CP also urged motorists to regularize their vehicle documents and obtain valid tinted glass permits through authorized channels.

He emphasized that proper vehicle documentation and registration are vital for maintaining accurate records, which aid investigations in cases of crime, accidents, or other public safety concerns.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to uphold public safety and order across the state — a stance that persists even amid a court directive against the policy’s enforcement.
