Human rights activist and convener of the Free Nnamdi Kanu protest, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the police for attacking peaceful demonstrators in Abuja on Monday.
Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme monitored by DAILY POST, Sowore said the protesters were assaulted simply because they maintained a non-violent stance while demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
“The protest wasn’t limited to social media. It happened physically across six major locations in Abuja—Utako, Gudu, Apo, and others—where thousands gathered,” Sowore stated.
According to him, the demonstrators were tear-gassed at the FCT Police Command despite their peaceful conduct.
“Police attacked us because we were peaceful protesters. If we were bandits, they would not come near us,” he lamented.
Sowore, however, reaffirmed his commitment to non-violence, warning that “a generation will come that will not accept this nonsense.”
