The Borno State Police Command has disbursed ₦20,137,770.34 to nine beneficiaries under the Group Life Insurance Scheme, providing financial relief to families of officers who died in the line of duty.

The cheques were presented to the next-of-kin during a formal ceremony, with the funds intended to support education, healthcare, and overall family welfare.

Spokesperson for the command, Nahum Daso, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Ibrahim Sumaila, conveyed assurances from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, that the welfare of officers and their families remains a top priority for the Force.

Sumaila described the Group Life Insurance Scheme as a clear demonstration of the Inspector-General’s commitment to honoring officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of national peace and security. He urged the beneficiaries to manage the funds prudently to meet pressing family needs.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr. Modu Ishaku expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General for the intervention, pledging that the financial support would be used responsibly.

The latest disbursement follows a similar payout in January 2026, when approximately ₦18.38 million was released to nine other families of fallen officers.

The Group Life Assurance Scheme is a nationwide initiative designed to provide critical financial support to the families of police personnel who lose their lives while serving the country.
