Police Bust Fake Terror Alert Plot, Arrest Suspect Behind Viral Abuja Video

0

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked a viral video alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in Abuja, describing the content as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to incite panic.

The clarification was issued in an official statement released on Friday, April 10, 2026, via the Force’s verified communication channels.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the viral footage was compiled using unrelated clips to create a false narrative about the security situation in the nation’s capital.

“The claims contained in the video are entirely false, misleading, and malicious,” the statement said.

The Force further disclosed that the video was designed to undermine public confidence in the country’s security architecture and stir unnecessary fear among residents.

Following intelligence gathering and digital forensic analysis, police operatives arrested a suspect identified as Pam Joseph in connection with the creation and dissemination of the video.

“The arrest followed credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations linking the suspect to the origin and circulation of the video,” the statement added.

The police emphasized that while citizens have the constitutional right to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to the intentional spread of misinformation capable of disrupting public peace and national security.

The Force urged the public to verify information before sharing, warning that the spread of unverified content could lead to unnecessary panic and disorder.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

The police reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring digital platforms and taking decisive action against individuals involved in the spread of false or misleading information.
