Plateau Will Remain PDP Stronghold Even If Gov. Mutfwang Joins APC – Ex-Senator Mwadkwon

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, has expressed confidence that Plateau State will remain firmly under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), regardless of speculations that Governor Caleb Mutfwang may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amid growing rumours of Mutfwang’s possible move to the APC, Mwadkwon—who represented Plateau North before his removal by an Appeal Court ruling—insisted that even if the governor switched parties, the APC would not pose a serious threat in Plateau.

Speaking with journalists in Jos on Thursday, the former senator dismissed reports linking Mutfwang with defection plans, stressing that the governor has repeatedly denied such claims.

“Plateau is always a PDP state, and whether the governor leaves the party or not, the people’s love for PDP is unparalleled,” Mwadkwon said.

He maintained that should Mutfwang ever leave, the PDP would easily present a strong candidate capable of winning elections in the state. He further advised the governor to remain in the PDP, describing it as the platform that best serves his political future.
