The lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi, has alleged that many of the deadly attacks in Plateau are being planned and executed from neighbouring states.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, Gagdi disclosed that criminal gangs have turned forest reserves along Plateau’s borders into safe havens.
“The report is right to say that some of those attacks are coordinated from the neighbouring state,” the lawmaker said.
He explained that one of the major forest reserves on the state’s boundary, particularly the one stretching towards Taraba, has become a hideout for armed groups.
“The forest reserve situated around the state’s boundary is the place where those bandits from the Northwest and Northeast, particularly from the Zamfara axis, have completely relocated to in order to carry out their attacks. Farmers are not allowed to farm in that area for the fact that it’s reserved. So it has become a safe haven for bandits, kidnappers and other criminals,” he noted.
According to him, the criminal elements use the game reserve as a base to coordinate and launch attacks on civilians in Plateau communities.
