Abuja — Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday embarked on a grassroots campaign tour across several Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the upcoming Area Councils’ elections.
Obi disclosed this in a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he said the visit was aimed at engaging directly with residents and reinforcing his belief that leadership must be rooted in accessibility and genuine connection with the people.
According to him, leadership is not a distant idea but one forged through presence, endurance, and an understanding of the everyday realities faced by citizens.
“Today, I set out from our office in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) with a clear mission: to engage directly with the grassroots and drive home our vision of leadership that truly serves the people,” Obi stated.
He said his first stop was Abaji Area Council, where he campaigned alongside Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate. Obi disclosed that he spent over an hour walking through the community, listening to residents and engaging with them on their aspirations.
The former Anambra State governor then proceeded to Kwali Area Council, where he supported Jeremiah Badoji, the ADC chairmanship candidate, once again spending time walking among residents and interacting with them.
Obi also visited Zuba, campaigning for Pharmacist Iko Danjuma, the ADC chairmanship candidate for Gwagwalada Area Council, before rounding off his tour at Deidei Market. There, he engaged traders and residents while canvassing support for Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC chairmanship candidate for AMAC.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development, stressing that governance must touch every segment of society and reflect the lived experiences of the people.
