Peter Obi Gets Massive Backing in Onitsha as Residents Rally Behind 2027 Presidency Bid

Residents of the Onitsha community in Anambra State have declared strong support for the 2027 presidential ambition of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, describing him as the most credible option to lead Nigeria toward national recovery and development.

The endorsement came during a solidarity gathering held over the weekend, where mothers, fathers, and youths from both Onitsha North and Onitsha South Local Government Areas openly expressed their confidence in Obi’s leadership capacity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The residents praised Obi for what they described as his remarkable developmental strides during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, particularly his contributions to the growth and transformation of Onitsha and other parts of the state.

According to the community members, Obi’s track record in governance, prudent management of public resources, and focus on infrastructure and education make him the most suitable candidate to reposition Nigeria and restore public confidence in leadership.

Their endorsement comes shortly after the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the political platform Obi recently joined, announced the zoning of its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria — a move widely seen as strengthening Obi’s chances of emerging as the party’s presidential candidate.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday, the NDC declared: “NDC Presidential ticket is zoned to the South!!”

The Onitsha residents also called on Nigerians across the country to align with the NDC in what they described as a collective effort to rescue and reposition the nation.

Meanwhile, the community used the occasion to address representation at the federal level, urging the current member representing the Onitsha Federal Constituency, Idu Emeka, to step aside and allow a younger candidate to emerge.

They argued that legislative responsibilities require sustained physical and mental strength, stressing that effective public service demands leaders with the energy and capacity to meet the growing challenges of governance.
