Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called for greater national unity, improved security and a shift from consumption to production as measures to create jobs and reduce poverty in Nigeria.
Obi made the call in a post on his X account on Saturday while recounting his visit to Delta State on Thursday, September 24.
He said he joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in the state, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, alongside other candidates, party leaders and members, at the inauguration of the party’s campaign office in Asaba.
According to Obi, the event provided an opportunity to communicate the party’s message and its commitment to building what he described as a better Nigeria.
He stressed the need for the country to unite, strengthen its security architecture and transition from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production.
“We must unite, secure our dear nation, and move it from consumption to production, create jobs, and pull our people out of poverty,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor thanked Iyovwaye, other party leaders and members in Delta State for their commitment to the campaign and the development of the state and Nigeria.
He also appreciated residents of the state for the reception and hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
“A New Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK,” Obi said.
