Peter Obi Alleges Plot to Block 2027 Presidential Bid, Calls for Free and Fair Elections

Former presidential candidate and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has alleged that the Federal Government is making moves to prevent him from contesting in the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the claim while addressing a group of Nigerians, where he emphasized the need for a transparent and credible electoral process in the country.

Reflecting on his political journey, the former Anambra State governor recounted past challenges, including political isolation and prolonged legal battles. He noted that his experiences have strengthened his resilience in the face of adversity.

“I have been in this very difficult business where people abandoned you completely for one election. I spent three years in court and no one followed me there,” he said.

Obi also recalled periods of political setbacks, including impeachment and removal from office, stating that such experiences have prepared him for future challenges.

“I have been impeached, returned to my village where no one wanted to see me, and removed from office twice,” he added.

According to Obi, these past ordeals have made him ready for any obstacles ahead, insisting that current criticisms and political pressures are not new to him.

He further alleged that there are deliberate efforts by those in power to stop his 2027 presidential ambition.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria does not want me to contest in the 2027 presidential election. We are not asking for much. They already have the governors and ministers; we are only asking for a free and fair election,” he stated.

Obi also suggested that the ruling establishment enjoys broader access to influential networks, which he believes gives them an advantage in the political landscape.

“They have all the contacts. They know the queen and the king, while we do not. They have everything,” he said.

He concluded by reiterating his call for electoral integrity, stressing that a level playing field remains essential for Nigeria’s democratic progress.
