The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and three other top national officers over alleged anti-party activities.
Those affected include the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha.
Their suspension was announced in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held in Abuja on Saturday.
According to the statement, the four officials were found to have committed several infractions in breach of the PDP Constitution and were therefore suspended for one month pending the outcome of a disciplinary process.
The statement read:
“National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, are suspended for one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee.
During this period of the suspension, they cease to function in their respective capacities.”
The party further directed that, in line with Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, shall act as the National Secretary in the interim.
Similarly, the National Director of Legal Services has been instructed to oversee the affairs of the Legal Department pending the conclusion of investigations by the Disciplinary Committee.
The decision came barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja halted the party’s planned national elective convention slated for November 15 — a move the PDP had earlier described as an assault on internal democracy.
The development has further deepened the internal wrangling within the main opposition party ahead of critical political realignments expected before the 2027 general elections.
