The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called on party members and supporters across the country to remain calm as the Court of Appeal prepares to deliver judgment on the party’s lingering leadership dispute on Monday, March 9, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, urged stakeholders to respect the judicial process and maintain peace regardless of the outcome of the ruling.

The statement, signed by the Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, emphasized the critical role of the judiciary in sustaining Nigeria’s democratic system through fairness, impartiality and adherence to the rule of law.

According to the forum, the PDP remains committed to respecting the court’s decision and preserving peace within the party and the country.

“Whatever the outcome of the court’s ruling, the PDP reaffirms its respect for the judicial process and its commitment to peace,” the statement read.

The governors noted that the PDP has historically played a significant role in strengthening democratic institutions and governance structures that safeguard citizens’ rights in Nigeria.

They further urged party leaders, members and supporters to demonstrate discipline and political maturity before, during and after the court delivers its judgment.

“The forum calls on party members and leaders to show maximum restraint and remain law-abiding before, during and after the ruling,” the statement added.

The PDP Governors’ Forum also disclosed that the party’s leadership would convene immediately after the judgment to assess the implications of the verdict and determine the next course of action.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the forum reassured party members with political ambitions that the PDP remains a viable and credible platform for contesting and winning elections.

Despite the recently released timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the governors stressed the party’s readiness to safeguard the political aspirations of its members.

The statement also underscored the importance of political plurality in a democratic system, noting that democracy thrives on diverse voices, healthy competition of ideas and citizens’ ability to freely choose from credible alternatives.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, the PDP pledged to continue offering Nigerians a people-centred political alternative.

The forum concluded by reiterating its respect for the judiciary as a critical institution for maintaining stability and confidence in Nigeria’s democratic governance.
