Abuja — The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved March 28 and 29, 2026, for the party’s National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja.
The decision was taken on Monday at the PDP’s 105th NEC meeting in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a joint statement signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary, the NEC said the resolutions followed extensive deliberations on the state of the party, the prevailing political climate, recent judicial developments, and preparations for upcoming internal processes.
The NEC unanimously reconfirmed and ratified all resolutions reached at the party’s Emergency 104th NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, affirming that all actions taken pursuant to those decisions remain lawful, binding, and in full force.
Reiterating its commitment to the rule of law and judicial independence, the committee welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative structures and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the duly constituted PDP National Caretaker Committee.
According to the statement, the March 2026 National Convention will elect members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other statutory organs of the party.
The NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, alongside affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the National Convention and subsequent congresses at state and zonal levels.
Furthermore, the committee mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and begin comprehensive logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
Calling for unity and discipline, the NEC urged party members nationwide to avoid actions capable of undermining cohesion and to prioritize the collective interest of the PDP over personal ambitions.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding a strong, democratic, and electorally competitive platform, expressing confidence that the resolutions of the 105th NEC meeting would restore stability and reposition the PDP for future electoral success.
Stakeholders, supporters, and members of the PDP both within Nigeria and in the diaspora were also encouraged to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and committed to the party’s ideals.
