PDP Edo Denies ‘Fake Convention’, Dismisses Claims of New National Chairman

0

The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly rejected reports alleging that a new National Chairman emerged from a supposed national convention held in Ibadan on November 16, 2025. The chapter also rubbished claims that expulsion certificates were issued to some members, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

In a statement released on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Bob-Manuel Umoru, the Edo PDP described the circulating reports as false, illegal, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

‘No Convention Held, No Chairman Produced’

The chapter emphasized that the PDP has not organized any valid National Convention as stipulated by the party’s Constitution (2017 as amended).

“No individual can claim to have emerged as National Chairman from a convention that never took place,” the statement said, stressing that the alleged Ibadan gathering “has no basis in reality or party procedure.”

Court Orders Still in Force

The Edo PDP noted that two subsisting High Court orders remain active, restraining the party from convening any national convention until internal issues are resolved.

“These orders have not been vacated by any superior court,” the statement added. “Any action taken in defiance of these directives — including supposed handovers or claims of new leadership — is null, void, and of no effect.”

Expulsion Claims Mocked as ‘Childish Drama’

The party also dismissed the alleged expulsion certificates purportedly issued to Wike and others, describing the move as laughable and an embarrassment to internal democracy.

“You cannot expel members from a convention that never took place, under a leadership not recognized by law,” the statement said.

Party Must Be Rebuilt Legally, Edo PDP Insists

Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the Edo chapter stressed that rebuilding the party must be anchored on constitutional and democratic principles — not propaganda or illegal power grabs.

“The PDP cannot be hijacked,” the statement declared, insisting that the party remains strong and must be protected from attempts to impose unlawful leadership.

The chapter further clarified that Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, is not the National Chairman of the party, contrary to recent claims.

Call for Calm

The Edo PDP urged its members across the state, the country, and abroad to disregard the misinformation being circulated and remain united in upholding the Constitution and integrity of the party.
