PDP Crisis Over, Doors Open for Returnees — Wike Declares

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been resolved, urging former members to return and support efforts to rebuild the party.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike described politics as a competitive but non-hostile process, likening it to a football match rather than a conflict without resolution.

He called on aggrieved stakeholders to set aside personal grievances in the interest of unity and collective progress, emphasizing that the party must remain inclusive.

“As far as I’m concerned, the convention has come and gone. People are trooping in. I will say, the door is open. Yes, we have had a crisis. Now the crisis is over. Do we still have to shut our doors? No. Certainly not,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor revealed that several individuals who had previously distanced themselves from the party are already indicating interest in returning, noting that the current political environment is favourable for renewed participation.

Wike also criticised the “do-or-die” approach often associated with Nigerian politics, warning that such attitudes hinder reconciliation and long-term stability. He maintained that the PDP’s recent challenges should be seen as differences that can be resolved rather than permanent divisions.

“Politics is not a fight to finish. It’s like a game, like football. If you see it as a do or die, it becomes difficult to reconcile. We have had our differences, but if you’re really sincere, there’s nothing left. We can do it together and move the party forward,” he added.

He further cautioned politicians against relying solely on titles for relevance, stressing that sustained visibility, active engagement, and consistent participation within party structures are essential to maintaining political influence.

Wike warned that those who fail to remain active risk being sidelined as the party moves forward with its rebuilding process.
