Factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tanimu Turaki, has expressed optimism that the party will overcome its ongoing internal crisis, assuring members and supporters that efforts toward reconciliation are already yielding progress.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Turaki revealed that leaders from opposing factions within the party have begun engaging constructively, noting that they have “broken the ice” and are actively exploring viable pathways to achieve a lasting resolution.
He urged party loyalists nationwide to exercise restraint by toning down inflammatory rhetoric and actions that could undermine the fragile peace process currently underway.
Turaki further reassured aspirants and stakeholders of the party’s readiness to participate fully in upcoming elections, affirming that the PDP will present candidates for all elective positions in line with Article 6(2) of its 2017 amended constitution.
He also commended Nigerians who continue to show interest in the party, particularly those registering through its e-registration platform, emphasizing that the loyalty of core supporters remains strong despite recent challenges.
Highlighting the broader role of opposition in a democratic system, Turaki stressed that democracy extends beyond elections and requires a vibrant opposition and active civil society to ensure accountability in governance.
Describing the PDP as a legacy party with a track record of 16 years in power, he reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democratic values in Nigeria, even from the opposition.
Turaki concluded by calling on those in government to remain mindful of their responsibility to the people, emphasizing that governance must always reflect the will and interests of the citizens.
