The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has reiterated its call for reconciliation, revealing that efforts to unite the party under a single structure have so far been unsuccessful due to the non-response of the rival camp led by Taminu Turaki.
Speaking during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television, the National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-backed faction, Jungudo Mohammed, disclosed that multiple invitations had been extended to the Turaki-led group in a bid to resolve the lingering internal crisis.
According to Mohammed, the reconciliation move aligns with advisory positions stemming from a ruling by the Court of Appeal Ibadan, which upheld earlier decisions by lower courts concerning the party’s leadership disputes.
Despite these overtures, he noted that the Turaki faction has yet to respond or provide reasons for its absence from reconciliation talks.
Mohammed emphasized that time constraints, particularly with the electoral timetable already released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), make swift resolution imperative. He added that provisions within the Electoral Act have further tightened timelines for political parties and aspirants.
While maintaining that the door for reconciliation remains open, the Wike faction signaled its readiness to proceed independently to ensure that party members have a viable platform to contest upcoming elections.
