The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its unity and resilience amid reports of planned defections by some of its governors, declaring that its strength lies in the people, not in individual ambitions.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention, Debo Ologunagba, said the PDP remains focused despite what he described as “orchestrated defections” allegedly engineered by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Ologunagba, the buzz surrounding the alleged defections only reflects the growing national interest in the PDP and its upcoming convention. He emphasized that the party’s institutional strength and democratic principles have sustained it through even more challenging times in the past.
“Let me say this: the stories of defection or possible defection catching Nigerians’ attention show that we have a political master,” Ologunagba said. “Because of the foundation of the PDP—strong, solid, and rooted in the people—we remain the only truly democratic party in this country, one built on ideas, convictions, and policies.”
He recalled that even in previous years when prominent figures such as presidents and vice-presidents left the PDP, the party endured and stayed strong because it was founded on lasting values rather than individual personalities.
