The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised alarm over an alleged plot by a broadcast station to forcibly take over a parcel of land belonging to the union.
The union made its position known in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting, jointly signed by Abiodun Atilola (State Information Chapel Chairman), Musliudeen Adebayo (Correspondents’ Chapel Secretary), and Mosunmola Akinola (MOAK Chapel member).
According to the communiqué, the land in question has been in the union’s lawful possession for years and is backed by a valid Certificate of Occupancy issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.
The NUJ accused the management of the said broadcast station of plans to trespass and encroach on the property, warning that such a move would be resisted through all legal means.
The union therefore called on Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to intervene and prevent any attempt to unlawfully seize its property. It also urged security agencies to be on alert to forestall a possible breach of peace.
“The congress called on the owners of Dominion Broadcast to stop any attempt to trespass or encroach on the union’s land,” the communiqué stated. “It further appealed to the Oyo State Government and security agencies to intervene and call the broadcast station to order.”
