The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) on Monday distributed food items and cash support to more than 10,000 widows, elderly residents, and persons living with disabilities across the state.
The gesture, carried out under the state’s Psychosocial Support Programme, took place at the Alegongo Community Hall in Akobo, Lagelu Local Government Area.
Addressing beneficiaries, OYCSDA Chairman, Abideen Adeaga, expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for consistently funding micro-projects and welfare initiatives that target vulnerable groups in communities statewide.
He noted that the agency had implemented micro-projects in 144 communities, covering potable water supply, erosion control, education support, and primary healthcare upgrades, alongside the psychosocial intervention for residents facing severe economic hardship.
“Over ten thousand beneficiaries are enjoying this psychosocial support programme across the state. As we are distributing welfare packages here in Ibadan, similar distributions are happening in Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ibarapa and Ogbomoso,” Adeaga said.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Hamzat Ade commended the state government for prioritising the welfare of widows, the aged, and people living with disabilities as part of its governance agenda.
The psychosocial support initiative falls under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (N-CARES) Programme, jointly funded by the World Bank, the Federal Government, and the Oyo State Government.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Chairman of Akinleye Local Government, Ayobami Akinwole; former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Oribayo Okeyode; PDP State Organising Secretary, Babatunde Tijani; and other community leaders.
The latest outreach comes months after the Oyo State Government, under the second phase of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery Programme, distributed 10kg bags of rice to 30,000 residents in June.
