Oyedepo – “Nigeria Must Not Descend Into Anarchy”

Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has again raised alarm over the escalating wave of insecurity in Nigeria, warning that the country is approaching a dangerous tipping point if urgent action is not taken.

Speaking during the 4th Pre-Shiloh Encounter Service monitored by Vanguard, Oyedepo condemned the recent attacks on churches that left several worshippers dead and others abducted, describing the developments as “worrisome to say the least.”

His renewed warning comes as Italy becomes the second G7 nation—after the United States—to openly call for an end to the killing of Christians in Nigeria. Former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously threatened military intervention if the Nigerian government failed to stop what he termed “Christian genocide.”

Addressing his congregation, Oyedepo declared that the blood of innocent Nigerians is “crying out for vengeance,” insisting that those responsible for killings and kidnappings “will pay with their lives.”

“There is need for a prompt response in prayers to stop the killings once and for all,” he said. “You can’t trade people’s lives for your comfort. All the innocent blood shed is speaking vengeance.”

Reaffirming his strong emotional connection to the country, the cleric said: “No one is more Nigerian than myself. We all have ancestral grounds. Power passes power, but no power passes the power of God.”

He urged members of the church to engage in intensified midnight prayers, warning that the country is edging dangerously close to chaos.

“Every member of this church should be awake one hour before midnight. You mean a church was invaded during worship and people were killed and abducted, and nothing happened?” he asked. “The God of justice is rising.”

Oyedepo referenced Genesis 12:3 as the biblical basis for calling down judgment on the perpetrators of violence, adding that Nigeria’s spiritual destiny cannot be thwarted by wicked forces.

“When God steps in, the pride of men is cut down,” he said. “Nigeria will never descend into chaos. These are hard things, but they are coming from the burning spirit of a prophet.”

Quoting Psalm 85:8 on divine peace, the bishop said he has been sounding this warning for 15 years and was prompted again to speak out due to the worsening national climate.

Condemning terrorism, kidnapping, and targeted attacks on Christian communities, Oyedepo announced that the church will continue to “call for justice” and spiritually “raid the camp of the wicked” through coordinated midnight prayers.

“We are going on a midnight raid. Let everyone partake,” he said.
