No fewer than 2,500 Christians on Monday converged in Maiduguri, Borno State, for a mass prayer rally aimed at seeking divine intervention over the persistent insecurity affecting the state and other parts of Nigeria.
The Easter Monday gathering, held at EYN LCC Maiduguri, was organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, and drew participants from multiple church denominations in a strong display of unity and collective worship.
According to the state CAN Secretary, Apostle Joshua Akeredolu Michael, the event recorded the attendance of over 2,500 faithful, including 86 clergymen.
Addressing participants, he urged Christians to continue demonstrating love towards one another while remaining steadfast in prayers for peace in Borno State, across Nigeria, and globally.
In his remarks, the Borno State CAN Chairman, Most Rev. Dr. John Bogna Bakeni, described the rally as a unifying platform that bridges denominational divides.
He noted that although churches observe different traditions during Holy Week, Easter Monday provides a unique opportunity for Christians to come together in one voice.
“We gathered in thanksgiving to God and also prayed for the nation. Our greatest concern remains the lingering Boko Haram insurgency. While we are not completely out of danger, we are grateful for a peaceful Easter celebration,” Bakeni said.
He commended the efforts of the Borno State Government and security agencies in ensuring a hitch-free Easter celebration but stressed that insecurity remains a pressing challenge.
“The cloud of insecurity still hangs over the state and the nation. We prayed for God to bring it to an end and urged everyone to remain united and peaceful,” he added.
Also speaking, the Resident Pastor of EYN LCC Maiduguri, Rev. Usman Waziri Dibal, said the interdenominational service provided a platform for Christians to collectively celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the redemption of mankind.
