“Our Strength Lies in the People, Not Governors” — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its resilience and deep grassroots strength despite recent defections and internal disagreements.

Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, insisted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was not suffocating the opposition party but rather inflicting hardship on Nigerians.

He noted that the worsening economic conditions and insecurity under the APC-led government would ultimately shape voters’ decisions in the 2027 general elections.

“When a governor defects, it’s a concern, but the strength of the PDP is not in governors — it’s in the people,” Ologunagba stated. “If the PDP is dead, why is everyone so interested in it?”

The party spokesman also described the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as one driven by “personal interest, inducement, intimidation, and coercion,” rather than ideology or policy differences.

“People are no longer defecting because of programmes or convictions. They are being coerced, intimidated, or induced,” he alleged.
