Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the sealing of the Renewed Hope Agenda office located on Ojike Street, Umuahia, insisting the action had no political undertone.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Ukoha, the governor explained that the property was sealed by the state’s Harmonised Task Force during a routine enforcement of court orders affecting buildings that had defaulted on statutory obligations.
According to the statement, the enforcement team had acted in line with a blanket directive targeting properties with unresolved documentation issues, including outstanding ground rent and related charges.
Governor Otti noted that he ordered the immediate unsealing of the office after the matter was brought to his attention by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
“The unsealing was promptly executed pending the regularisation of the building’s documentation. This enforcement was not politically motivated; rather, it was part of a general exercise targeting properties in default of statutory obligations,” the statement read.
The government added that the property owner had failed to respond to official notices requesting proof of compliance before the enforcement was carried out.
The governor cautioned against politicising the activities of the task force, stressing that due process remains the guiding principle of his administration.
