Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has declared his support for the Labour Party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, even as he affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s right to seek re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV aired on Friday, Otti said his political loyalty lay with his party’s candidate.
“I have a presidential candidate and it is expected that I support my candidate,” he stated.
The governor, however, was careful to distinguish party loyalty from personal opposition to the President, noting that Tinubu’s bid for a second term was legitimate and unchallengeable on his part.
“He (Tinubu) has the right to run and nobody can stop him. But I’m in the Labour Party and for now, he has my support,” Otti said.
Dr. Sunday Chibuzo Okereke currently serves as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Otti’s comments add to a growing list of remarks from opposition governors carefully navigating loyalty to their parties while avoiding direct confrontation with the sitting President ahead of the polls.
