Osimhen Shuns NFF Plea to Join Super Eagles in South Africa Despite Injury

Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, has reportedly turned down an appeal from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to travel with the Super Eagles squad for last week’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

The NFF had urged the forward, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, to accompany the team and provide moral support during the crucial clash. However, Osimhen allegedly declined and instead returned to Turkey immediately after picking up the injury in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda.

SuperSport presenter, Charles Anazodo, disclosed the development on Monday night via X, writing:

“A very reliable source today told me the @thenff officials pleaded with Osimhen to travel with the @NGSuperEagles to South Africa as a means of support despite his injury. He blatantly refused and chose to go back to his club.”

Osimhen is still undergoing recovery but could make a return for Galatasaray in their UEFA Champions League fixture against Frankfurt later this week.
