Ortom Rallies Benue PDP to Reclaim Power in 2027, Dismisses Defection Rumours

Ortom to FG: Declare Miyetti Allah as terrorist group

Former Benue State Governor and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Samuel Ortom, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and vowed to lead efforts aimed at repositioning it for victory in the 2027 general elections.

Ortom made the declaration at the weekend in Makurdi while hosting members of the PDP G-14 and other key stakeholders from the 14 Local Government Areas in Zones A and B Senatorial Districts. The meeting, which brought together prominent party figures, focused on strengthening internal structures and rebuilding grassroots support across the state.

Dismissing speculations about a possible defection, Ortom described such reports as the handiwork of “mischief makers,” insisting that he remains fully committed to the PDP. He expressed confidence that the party will emerge stronger, more united, and ready to reclaim its position as the ruling party in Benue State.

While noting that he would not be contesting any political office in 2027, the former governor pledged his unwavering support for all PDP candidates at both state and national levels. He encouraged party members to remain steadfast, engage in broad consultations, and avoid being discouraged by the recent wave of defections to the ruling party.

Leader of the PDP G-14, Dr. Laha Dzever, speaking on behalf of the group, commended Ortom’s purposeful leadership and assured him of the group’s continued loyalty and support.

In his remarks, the State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Azua Ashongo, urged stakeholders to present only credible candidates in future elections to consolidate Ortom’s efforts in rebuilding the party. He praised the former governor for his sacrifices and urged other members to emulate his commitment.

Also speaking, Ambassador Chive Kaave and Senator Fred Orti pledged the full cooperation of members from Zones A and B towards ensuring the PDP’s return to power and advancing the state’s development.

Other speakers included Hon. William Ortyom, representing PDP lawmakers in the Benue State House of Assembly; Simon Anyamkande, speaking for local government party chairmen; Mrs. Veronica Gajir, representing women; and Joel Kôrinjô, who spoke on behalf of the youth.

The meeting was attended by serving and former members of the PDP National Executive Committee, members of the Board of Trustees, local government chairmen, national delegates, former aspirants, ex-government appointees, and other prominent party stakeholders. The gathering ended with a renewed commitment to unity, loyalty, and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 polls.
