The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has declared that the people of Ondo State will unite with one voice in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The minister made this known in Akure, the state capital, during a ceremony where members of the Nigeria Workstation — a grassroots media, research, and strategy group comprising former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Action Alliance (AA) — formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Represented by Chief Muyiwa Asagunla, Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended the decampees for joining the ruling party and applauded President Tinubu for the ongoing infrastructural projects transforming Ondo State.
According to him, the dualisation of the Ore-Akure Road, Ilesha–Akure–Benin Road, Akure–Ado-Ekiti Road, and the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, which passes through Ondo State, are clear evidence of the administration’s commitment to national development.
“These projects and other reforms initiated by President Tinubu are laudable and must be sustained beyond 2027,” Tunji-Ojo said.
Receiving the new members, the APC State Chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, welcomed them on behalf of the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Adetimehin assured the decampees of equal opportunities within the party, emphasizing that the APC remains committed to inclusiveness and progress for all members.
He said, “The Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu has positively touched the lives of our people in Ondo State. It is only right that we support him to continue his good work.”
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the Convener of the Nigeria Workstation, Hon. Kennedy Peretei, said the group decided to join the APC because opposition parties in the state lacked focus, coordination, and a winning strategy.
“Today, you have seen the faces of what was referred to as the last plank of opposition. Hence, from today, there is only one party in Ondo State — the APC,” Peretei said.
He described the defection as a political earthquake that will reshape the next elections in the state, adding that the group’s full strength would be felt in due course.
Peretei also appreciated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Minister Tunji-Ojo, and party leaders including Ambassador Sola Iji, Dr. Tob Loko, High Chief Ebi Molos, High Chief J.M. Magi, High Chief P.M.S. Olopele, Senior High Chief Bibopere Ajube, and Chief Matthew Oyerinmade for their support and open-door leadership.
