Ondo Government Moves to Reassure Residents After Leaked DSS Alert on Alleged ISWAP Threat

The Ondo State government has assured residents of their safety following a leaked security memo from the Department of State Services (DSS) warning of a possible coordinated attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on some communities in the state.

In a statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, urged the public to remain calm, describing the leaked memo as a routine intelligence report regularly shared among security agencies and government officials to assess potential threats and take preventive measures.

According to Ajanaku, the intelligence highlighted in the memo is already being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies to forestall any attack.

“Such reports are a normal part of security operations, aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats,” he explained. “The emphasis remains on vigilance and collaboration between security agencies and the government to ensure the safety of all residents.”

He called on the people of Ondo State to remain alert and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security post, assuring that proactive steps are being taken to protect lives and property.

The leaked DSS memo, addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, Akure, had identified possible target locations, including Oyin-Akoko and Eriti-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Council, as well as Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area.

Signed by one H.I. Kana, the document stated that the suspected terror group had begun surveillance on potential soft targets in the listed communities, urging the immediate tightening of security measures to avert any possible attack.
