Senator Iyiola Omisore, former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election, describing his decision as a call to service.
Speaking at a consultation program with stakeholders from Olorunda and Osogbo local government areas on Wednesday in Osogbo, Omisore revealed that party stakeholders urged him to enter the race to “rescue the state from poor governance.”
Highlighting his extensive experience in both public and private sectors, Omisore said he is well-prepared to lead the state to greater heights.
He stated, “Stakeholders in our party prevailed on me to join the race to rescue the state from bad governance. I have served as deputy governor, a Senator, and National Secretary of the APC. My wealth of experience attests to my capacity to pilot the affairs of the State.
“If we fail to give a viable aspirant the ticket, we will fail and lose. We must consider an aspirant who has held an elective position to run for the 2026 gubernatorial race.
“Governorship should not be decided by friendship or personal interest. The seat must be a collective testimony of all stakeholders, interest groups, and the voting population. All of us contesting this race are brothers.”
Omisore’s movement coordinator, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, added that the former senator enjoys overwhelming acceptance among party stakeholders, expressing confidence in his victory at the upcoming primary election next month.
