Old Video Resurfaces as Rufai Oseni Calls Out Wike Over Alleged Godfather Politics in Rivers

Media personality and ARISE TV anchor, Rufai Oseni, has stirred fresh political debate after resurfacing an old video of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in which he openly rejected godfatherism in Nigerian politics.

The video, recorded during Wike’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State, has gained renewed traction across social media platforms. In the clip, Wike is heard declaring that he would not impose a successor on the people of Rivers State.

“The day I leave as Governor of Rivers State, in the name of Almighty God, I have no power to choose a successor because the people have the right to decide who leads them,” Wike said in the footage.

The resurfacing of the video comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, where the former governor is currently touring all 23 Local Government Areas. The move is widely interpreted as an attempt to reclaim control of the state’s political structure from the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

During one of his recent political engagements, Wike warned that he could become politically irrelevant if Governor Fubara secures a second term in office. In a statement seemingly directed at the governor, the FCT minister vowed that what he described as the “mistake of 2023” would not be repeated in future elections.

Rufai Oseni’s decision to resurface the old video has reignited conversations online, with many Nigerians questioning the consistency between Wike’s past public stance against godfatherism and his current political actions in Rivers State.

As the political drama unfolds, Rivers State remains at the center of national attention ahead of the next election cycle.
