Okpebholo Vows All-Round Development as Edo Marks One Year of His Administration

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the state through massive infrastructural development aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

Speaking on Tuesday during the inspection of several ongoing projects across Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas in the Edo South Senatorial District, the governor said his administration is determined to make governance meaningful and impactful.

According to him, his government is prudently utilizing the state’s share of the monthly Federation Allocation to fund key projects in education, health, and road infrastructure.

“As you can see, we are working with the state government’s share from the monthly Federation Allocation Account. We are using the money for infrastructural projects on roads, schools, hospitals, among others.

“We are beautifying our roads and transforming our communities into modern cities that will be habitable for our people. When we are sleeping, we are dreaming about Edo; and during the day, we are thinking about it. I have no other business here than to develop the state,” Okpebholo said.

At the reconstructed Army Day Secondary School in Ikpoba Okha, the governor pledged to deliver what he described as a “real Edobest” education policy—an improvement on what he termed the “unrealistic” version of his predecessor, former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He disclosed that the rehabilitated school now boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and air-conditioned classrooms, with plans underway to install solar-powered lighting systems across the premises to enable students to study at night.

Okpebholo further assured that more schools across the state would be renovated and equipped with modern learning facilities to enhance the quality of education.

During an inspection of the Adesuwa Road Junction flyover project along Sapele Road, the project manager, Lorenzin Mrurizio, revealed that the construction timeline had been reduced from 24 months to 18 months.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Project Monitoring, Phoebe Williams-Bello, confirmed that compensation would be paid to affected landlords at the project site.

Other projects inspected by the governor include the 32-kilometre Benin–Sapele Highway, internal roads in Ogheghe Community, the 23-kilometre Old Benin–Sapele Highway, Oba Erediauwa Road, Ekiuwa–University of Benin Road, and extensions on Temboga Road and Upper Mission Road in Benin City.
