The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has appealed to armed groups terrorizing South-East residents to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
The call was made on Thursday by the National President of the council, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, following the reported capture of Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, also known as “Gentle De Yahoo,” a notorious member of the Auto Pilot gang, by the Nigerian military.
According to Mazi Nnabuike, the arrest presents an opportunity for those behind the killings, kidnappings, and other violent activities in the region to reconsider their actions.
“For the past three years or so, our people have been subjected to mayhem—not by outsiders, but by fellow Ndigbo,” he said. “What began as an agitation for Biafra has devolved into kidnappings for ransom, organ harvesting, community attacks, and the collection of illegal levies.”
He noted that even IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has condemned such acts, and the group itself has been disowned by IPOB, leaving them isolated. “It is ironic that they are harming the very people they claim to fight for,” he added.
Mazi Nnabuike urged those still in the bush to surrender and emphasized that Ndigbo are not known for shedding blood. “There is sanctity of life in Igbo land, but it has been severely desecrated,” he said.
He further called for the liberation of communities in Imo and Anambra States still under siege, stressing that “enough blood has been spilled; this is the time to rebuild our land.”
