The Youth Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Oyejide Sunkanmi, popularly known as SUCO, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sunkanmi formally announced his resignation in a letter dated Monday and addressed to the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, bringing to an end his 12-year membership of the party.

In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities afforded him over the years, describing his time in the party as both remarkable and fulfilling.

“It has been a remarkable and fulfilling 12-year journey. I am sincerely grateful to the leadership of the party for the opportunity to serve in various capacities during my time in the PDP. The experience has shaped me politically and personally, and for that, I remain thankful,” he wrote.

He also acknowledged several party leaders for their support throughout his stay, including Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, Hon. Abayomi Tella, Chief Robert Adenaike, Hon. Remi Odubote, Chief Olumide Aderinokun, Prince Lekan Tejuosho, Chief Mrs. Olabosipo Ogunsan, Ambassador Folake Marcus Bello, Hon. Abiodun Ogunremi, Prince Sunday Sholarin, and Hon. Yussuf Oshunrinde.

Anticipating mixed reactions to his decision, Sunkanmi appealed for understanding.

“I understand that this decision may not sit well with everyone. To those who may feel disappointed, I humbly ask for your understanding. Decisions such as this are never taken lightly,” he stated.

When contacted, the former youth leader representing Ibara/Onisasa Ward 16 in Abeokuta North Local Government Area confirmed his defection to the APC, citing personal reasons for the move.

His defection marks a notable shift within the Ogun State political landscape as party alignments continue to evolve ahead of future electoral contests.
