Ogun Orders Mandatory Registration of All Foreign Nationals in Bold New Security Drive

The Ogun State Government has announced compulsory documentation of all foreign nationals residing in the state, a sweeping security measure aimed at curbing rising threats and strengthening public safety.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed the policy on Monday while briefing journalists after a high-level security meeting at his Iperu residence. He said every foreign national entering or living in Ogun must now undergo full documentation in line with security protocols and immigration laws.

“No foreign national within the state will be allowed to operate without proper identification,” the governor stressed.

Abiodun described Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial powerhouse and the gateway between Lagos and the rest of the country, noting that such a strategic position requires proactive security management.

“There cannot be meaningful economic development in an atmosphere of insecurity. This is why we have taken decisive steps to ensure full documentation of foreign nationals and strengthen engagement with all non-indigene communities,” he said.

As part of the new measures, the governor announced plans for a strategic meeting with leaders of non-indigene communities to deepen cooperation, enhance trust, and support joint security efforts.

Abiodun also revealed that activities of scavengers across the state will now be strictly regulated to prevent criminal infiltration and misuse of the trade. Security agencies, he said, will intensify operations in forests, government reserves, and mining areas, while landlords harbouring criminals will face sanctions.

He further disclosed that the controversial ZAGA settlement in Ijebu-Ode will be dismantled and taken over by the government due to its alleged use for unlawful activities.

To reinforce border security, the state will establish a Forward Operating Base (FOB) around Ilara in Imeko/Afon Local Government, a key frontier community.

The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for ongoing rescue operations involving kidnap victims in Niger and Kwara States, saying the progress made so far underscores the importance of preparedness.

“We congratulate Mr. President and the security agencies for the progress made in the rescue efforts. Security is a shared responsibility, and we urge citizens to provide timely information to law enforcement,” Abiodun said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhanced inter-agency cooperation and continued support for security operatives, including local hunters, as part of a modernized security architecture designed to keep Ogun State safe and stable.
