Renowned Nigerian clergyman and philanthropist, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has sent words of encouragement to award-winning singer Davido following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Speaking to his supporters, Odumeje described Davido as a “generational award,” stressing that the singer’s impact and legacy transcend formal recognitions.
“There is one of our brothers that I love so much. He is a great musician—Davido. You are already a generational award. Your life is an award, your step is an award,” Odumeje said.
He urged the singer not to allow the Grammy loss dampen his spirit, advising him to remain focused on creating music that continues to inspire and captivate the world.
“Don’t allow anybody to quench the fire of your joy. Go and get more inspiration to shock the world with new music. Don’t go where you are not accepted,” he added.
Odumeje further cautioned Davido against allowing criticism to weaken his confidence, insisting that the global music industry would continue to gravitate towards him.
“You are already on top of the world. Don’t let people demoralise you or reduce your quality,” he said.
At the 2026 Grammy Awards, South African singer Tyla won the Best African Music Performance category, defeating Nigerian nominees Davido, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr.
Despite the outcome, Odumeje maintained that Davido’s influence and contribution to African music remain unmatched, encouraging him to keep pushing boundaries on the global stage.
